EAGLE Eagle stands for Enhanced Assessment of Grade- Level Expectations. It is a classroom assessment tool. The tests are constructed by each individual teacher. It can cover any of the GLE’s in any order. It is done online. It will provide detailed reports on individual students showing their strengths and weaknesses. Eagle also provides links to instructional resources. It can be used for both formative and summative assessments. Currently the state is holding trainings throughout the state for our teachers to understand how to use this valuable tool. Schools throughout our parish are sending teachers to get the training. These teachers, in turn will provide training for other teachers at their school. The state has set a timeline for implementation. In the current school year (2008-2009), grades 4, 8, Algebra 1 and English 2 will be available for teachers to use. In the (2009-2010) school year, grades 3, 5, 6, and 7 will be added. All other high school subjects are scheduled to be added in the (2010-2011) school year. All other grade levels will be added in the following school years. In summary, teachers will be able to use EAGLE to create tests for different GLE’s. They will be given a report which will show students strengths and weaknesses. Then through EAGLE, they will be given resources that will target follow-up instruction on the weak areas. It will be a valuable tool to help our teachers get our students ready for the upcoming high stakes testing. For more information on EAGLE go online to www.louisianaschools.net.
