Dual Enrollment Partnerships with
South Louisiana Community College (SLCC)
And Louisiana Technical College (LTC)

The Louisiana Early Start Program enables students to be dually enrolled in a high school course  and  college course. The student is able to get credit at the high school and college level at the same time.

Students that are at least 15 years old and currently enrolled in the 11th or 12th grade are eligible if they meet the criteria. Basically, a student is eligible if they have a certain score on the PLAN or ACT test and has the permission from their parent and high school officials.

The Program was initiated by the Louisiana Board of Regents. It is another recommendation of the High School Redesign Commission. The commission felt by providing students to obtain either academic or career oriented classes dual credit, the student will more likely to remain in high school and be successful in the real world.

St. Martin Parish is partnered with The South Community College and Louisiana Technical College Systems. Our program was initiated in the Spring of 2008 at our three high schools. At that time, we only had the academic version. We offered dual credit in English 1V,  Advanced Math, Chemistry, and Developmental English. This year we are expanding and offering dual credit with LTC for the 08-09 school year.

For more information, check with your high  schools counselors or log on to the Louisiana early Start Website at http://www.osfa.state.la.us/EarlyStart.htm

The Early Start Program is a great opportunity for students to get a jump start on their future.  Students receive college credit free of charge. Check out the program if interested.
